Books about Lafayette

Somebody asked for the titles of the books I got from my university’s library today, so I decided to do a complete list of books about our crazy French fry.

Books I already read

- Adopted Son by David A. Clary (those of you who follow my blog will know that I’m absolutely obsessed with this book; it is so well written and if Washington and Lafayette won’t make you smile and cry at the same time I don’t know what will)

- Lafayette in the somewhat United States by Sarah Vowell (a rather humorous approach to Lafayette’s life, not my favourite but it was a good read)

- Memoirs, Correspondence and Manuscripts of General Lafayette by Lafayette himself (well, as a fan of Lafayette you just have to read his memoirs. They are available on Amazon Kindle for free, btw!)

Books I got from the library today

- For liberty and glory: Washington, Lafayete and their revolutions by James R. Gaines

- Lafayette by Harlow G. Unger

- Lafayette in two worlds by Lloyd S. Kramer

- Lafayette: Prisoner of state by Paul Spalding (deals with the 5 years of Lafayette’s life he spent imprisoned)

- Lafayette, hero of two worlds by Stanley J. Idzerda (focuses on Lafayette’s farewell tour to the US in 1824/25, there are some really cool pictures in there I had not seen before)

Other books that are out there

- The Marquis: Lafayette reconsidered by Laura Auricchio

Feel free to add books to this list!
